How to speed up your Android Studio emulator

As you probably know the Android Studio emulator can be very slow and this have an impact on your productivity.

The solution I found is the following:

Open the AVD Manager

Click on “Create Virtual Device”

Choose the “Nexus One” and click on “Next”

Click on “Lollipop” and “Next”

Click on “Software – GLES 1.1” and “Show Advanced Settings”

Change the RAM from 512 to 1024 and click on “Finish”

By installing an old device (Nexus One) with an old operating system (Lollipop), and increasing the RAM from 516 to 1024, I managed to speed up my Android emulator.

  1. Thank you so much you also helped me a lot because my Emulator was really slow. I am a novice programmer from South Africa aged 42 turning 43 in October this year. I enjoy programming but have been busy with other things trying to put bread on the table as I have a young family. My objective this year is to finish the App I have been putting off as either Too difficult/Not interesting/Don’t have the time …
